Singhvi: This has happened in the case of every political person in the liquor case. This is very concerning.

    • 27 March 2024 12:32 PM IST

Singhvi: In the first step, there is nothing against me, the accused. Step three, after three or four statements, you arrest that ABC. He suffers in jail for a while. He is put under deep pressure. He is made to apply for bail. Step 5, the ASG tells court that there is no reason to oppose the bail. So the man gets bail. Step 6, he comes out and makes a statement against me. And then he gets pardon.

Singhvi: The totality of the statements... I'll show that take the statements as they are but they can't form basis of arrest.

    • 27 March 2024 12:28 PM IST

Singhvi also refers to Lalita Kumari judgment.

Singhvi: You're at a non trial preliminary stage. Even assuming all this material...you are to show the necessity of arrest. You've only alleged materials and allegations.

Singhvi now refers to Arnesh Kumar judgment of the Supreme Court.

    • 27 March 2024 12:24 PM IST

      Singhvi refers to a judgment.

Singhvi: I am glad that at least one or two courts have dealt with the style of functioning... normally courts are averse to touch an entity which is the holy cow now i.e. ED.

    • 27 March 2024 12:20 PM IST

Singhvi: You just can't say one fine day I would like to arrest, I've the power to arrest, I've the desire to arrest and thus I'm arresting.

    • 27 March 2024 12:17 PM IST

Singhvi now refers to certain judgments on the aspect of necessity to arrest.

    • 27 March 2024 12:17 PM IST

Singhvi: Have you (ED) ever tried to tell the court that he's not given you any answer? What is it that you need to arrest? Nothing.

    • 27 March 2024 12:16 PM IST

Singhvi: Custodial interrogation is based on non cooperation.

Mr. ED, if you want to investigate me as per my role in February 2024 two months before election, no necessity to arrest. Even my role you're not aware of, you've doubts about. On the cusp of election you arrest me. What Is it that you couldn't have done without my arrest that you arrest me.
