Member of Parliament Rajan Vichare from Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray (UBT) Shiv Sena camp has approached the Bombay High Court against Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Dy CM Devendra Fadnavis and others regarding the decision to reduce his security to just one constable.

The plea states that while CM Shinde-led government is providing double police security to the Private Personal Assistants' and party workers and some people who are not even holding any position but are close to CM Eknath Shinde at the cost of state exchequer, the security of those aligning with UBT Shiv Sena has been reduced.

“It is pertinent to mention here that the tactic of the present government is to silence everyone who support the Shiv-Sena Head Shri. Uddhavji Thackeray. The thread of their threat now has reached to the higher leadership like MLAs and MPs. The present government is using its entire machinery to silence the leaders who support Shri. Udhavji Thackeray and therefore Petitioner is fearing for him and his family life on the same ground,” the plea filed by Advocate Nitin Satpute says.

Vichare says in his plea that the government machinery is being misused to intimidate him despite being elected to the Lok Sabha in 2014 and re-elected in 2019 with the margin of more than 4.21 Lakh votes.

The plea states that he was elected as Member of Parliament from old undivided Shivsena, and remained with Ex-CM Uddhav Thackeray after the split. “After spit in Shiv Sena the Eknath Shinde led Government is trying to create problems to the MP & MLAs who have not joined hands with either Eknath Shinde or BJP,” it says.

A letter to the police commissioner Thane was in vain, the plea adds.

The petition states that in Thane District, which is the home constituency of the present CM Eknath Shinde, most of the Shiv-Sena leaders are forced to join him under coercion of false criminal cases. “The Petitioner is the only Member of Parliament along with 3 Municipal Corporators left with the Thackerays.”

The plea further pointed out news reports to show that vehicles acquired from the Nirbhaya fund were diverted for the protection of MLAs from the Shinde camp. However, it may be noted that several of these vehicles were returned as per news reports.

“Respondent no. 1 (CM Shinde) and Respondent No. 2 (Fadnavis) are not bothered about safety of women and common people,” the plea alleges.

It adds that in 2022 the Mumbai police procured 220 Boleros, 35 Ertigas, 313 Pulsar motorcycles and 200 Activas with the Rs. 30 crore it received from the Nirbhaya fund. Two vehicles were given to each police station.

The petition therefore seeks the following,

    1. Direct the Respondents state to Reinstate or Restore Security to the petitioner for the interest of justice.
    1. Direct state to send back all Nirbhaya Vehicle to the Nirbhaya Squad of Concern Police Station forthwith and also conduct audit of the funds raised for Nirbhaya Vehicle and their misuse by Respondent No. 2. (Fadnavis).
