In the farewell organized by the Supreme Court Bar Association for outgoing Chief Justice of India N.V. Ramana, Solicitor General of India, Tushar Mehta spoke about CJI Ramana's love for literature.
In lighter vein of things, he said that as per his research, CJI Ramana planned to write a romantic Telugu novel after retirement.
"From very reliable sources, I have gathered one information which I am going to make public", the SG said. As the audience held their breath in anticipation, the SG continued, "Apart from law, my lord has a different passion and that passion is regarding Telugu literature. This may not be a secret. But the secret is that his lordship is contemplating after retirement about writing a romantic novel in Telugu". The audience burst into a laughter at this and the SG added, "I have stopped my research at that. I did not go into the roots, what inspired his lordships to write a romantic novel after retirement". CJI Ramana was seen amused and responded with a surprised smile at the SG's statements.
The SG added that CJI Ramana devotes time for reading Telugu literature after court work. "May be we will come to know after a year or so that there was an eminent Telugu poet sitting with us".
In his reply speech, Chief Justice N.V. Ramana responded to the Solicitor General's comment and in a lighter vein said- "I want to correct here Mr.Tushar Mehta, just like the IB reports, your reports about me going to write a romantic novel are not correct". As the audience erupted into a loud laughter at this comment, CJI continued "I may write some books about literature, I may write some books about hisotrical events which have taken place while I was an advocate and all that".
