    The Supreme Court is hearing the petition filed by the State of West Bengal against the August 19 order of the Calcutta High Court directing CBI investigation into cases of murder, rape and offences against women which happened during the post-poll violence in the state.

      Sr Adv Kapil Sibal continues with his submissions: The order said that keeping in view of the fact that there is infrastructure available with the NHRC & the instances sought to be projected by the petitioners are large in number, they requested the Chairperson to constitute a Committee.

      Sibal: Then comes order of 18th June, which is the most important order. It's their case that these are all officers nominated by Human Rights Commission. As per report of June 3 people were reinstated. So the state was taking action.

      Sibal : When you come to violence in state you question police officers as if no one can be trusted, and as if political party in power is in control. But you don’t apply same yardstick to the centre! There is another party in power at Centre controlling the Central agency.
