The Supreme Court on Monday said that it will consider a plea made on behalf of 5-time Paralympian shooter Naresh Kumar Sharma for urgent listing of his petition challenging the exclusion of his name from the Tokyo Paralympics today itself.
The matter was mentioned before the Chief Justice of India by Senior Advocate Vikas Singh, who said that today was the last day for submitting names for Paralympics.
CJI NV Ramana initially asked why a letter for mentioning has not been filed. Singh replied that in view of the extreme urgency of the matter, he was constrained to make an oral mention.
Though the Delhi High Court agreed that his exclusion was illegal, Singh said that it has kept the matter to August 6. If the matter is not heard today, it will become infructuous, Singh urged.
The senior counsel highlighted that Naresh Kumar Sharma was a disabled shooter, who has won the Arjuna award, and his name has been excluded from the Paralympics in an arbitrary fashion.
Finally, the CJI told Singh to forward the papers.
"If there is any real urgency we will allot it to some court. Let us see", CJI said.
Update :
A bench comprising Justices AM Khanwilkar, BR Gavai and Krishna Murari will hear the matter at 2 PM today.
