The Supreme Court will hear tomorrow Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's petition seeking bail in the CBI case over the alleged liquor policy scam.

A bench comprising Justices Surya Kant and Ujjal Bhuyan will hear the matter. The bench will also hear another petition filed by him challenging his arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation in the case.

The special leave petitions are filed against the judgment of the Delhi High Court delivered on August 5 upholding the arrest by the CBI. The High Court also declined to grant him bail, asking him to approach the trial court seeking such relief.

On July 12, the Supreme Court had granted interim bail to Kejriwal in the case registered by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the liquor policy case. However, he continued to remain in jail due to his arrest by the CBI on June 26 in connection with the same case.

Kejriwal's lawyer Senior Advocate AM Singhvi contended that the arrest by the CBI was an "insurance arrest" pre-empting his release in the ED case. Refuting this, CBI contended that the custody of Kejriwal was required for the investigation under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Kejriwal was arrested by the ED on March 21 and has been under custody since then except for the period between May 10 and June 2 for which he was granted interim bail by the Supreme Court for campaigning for the Lok Sabha elections.
