The Supreme Court on Thursday released a list of over 10,000 judgments from January 1, 2014 to March 31, 2023 with proposed neutral citations to facilitate crowdsourced checking, so that any missing or incorrect items can be addressed with the help of legal professionals and publishers.
The notice has asked for inputs for the same within 15 days to be sent to the Registrar of the top court's Library and Editorial Section.
"We solicit invaluable suggestions on the proposed list of cases and the referral neutral citations. One may compare the list of cases and neutral citations with their own database and accordingly make suggestions regarding any missing or incorrect data, if any, in the list of judgements," the notice said. On consideration of suggestions received, a final list of judgments with neutral citation will be published by the Registry
Suggestions, if any, may be forwarded to the Registrar, Library and Editorial Section through email on judgeslibrary@sci.nic.in within 15 days.
A brain child of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, the system of neutral citations will ensure a uniform pattern of citing all decisions of the High Court and the Supreme Court. CJI Chandrachud announced the launch of this system in February this year. Apart from this, CJI Chandrachud also launched e-ESCR project this year, whereby digital version of all Supreme Court judgments are made available online for free access.
