Supreme Court Rejects PIL Alleging Discrepancies In Voting Data Of 2024 Lok Sabha Elections

The Supreme Court today (July 12) dismissed a petition seeking disclosure of data regarding alleged discrepancies in the counting of votes by the Election Commission of India (ECI) during the recent general elections.

The bench of CJI DY Chandrachud comprising Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice Manoj Misra considered the matter.

The petition seeks directions from the ECI to release the data regarding the counting of votes done during the recent general elections.  The petitioner alleged discrepancies in the counting of votes.

Considering that the results of the elections have already been declared and the Parliament Session has also commenced with the formation of the new government, the CJI dismissed the matter. 

"Elections have been held, the government has been constituted, please don't file these kinds of petitions. We are dismissing it," CJI said.

The general election results for the 18th Lok Sabha were declared on June 1. On June 9 the Coalition Government of the National Democratic Alliance led by Prime Minister Modi came to power and secured 293 seats out of 543. 

It may noted that on April 26 the Top Court rejected the pleas seeking 100% cross-verification of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) data with Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trial (VVPAT) records.
