The Supreme Court on Tuesday (August 29) refused to interfere with the order of the Punjab and Haryana High Court which stayed the elections of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI).

A bench comprising Justices Abhay S Oka and Pankaj Mithal was considering a special leave petition filed by the Andhra Andhra Pradesh Amateur Wrestling Association against the order passed by the High Court on August 11.

The bench asked the petitioner to approach the High Court seeking the vacation of the interim order instead of approaching the Supreme Court.

The High Court passed the order in a petition filed by the Haryana Wrestling Association objecting to the inclusion of Haryana Amateur Wrestling Association in the electoral college for the WFI elections. HWA contended that the HAWA is not fully affiliated to the State Olympic Association, which is a precondition to vote in the WFI elections.

The High Court bench comprising Justice Vinod S Bharadwaj passed the interim order a day ahead of the date of the scheduled elections and posted the matter for further hearing on August 28. Yesterday, the High Court extended the interim stay till September 25.
