While dealing with Uttar Pradesh MLA Abbas Ansari's plea assailing Allahabad High Court's failure to hear his property dispute despite a specific Supreme Court direction, Justice Surya Kant of the top Court today expressed concern about the High Court, saying it is one of the High Courts one should be "worried" about.
While the allegation regarding Ansari's background affecting the High Court did not weigh with the bench (also comprising Justice N Kotiswar Singh), Justice Kant voiced concern about the Allahabad High Court, saying,
"Some of the High Courts, we don't know what will happen...this (Allahabad High Court) is one of the High Courts which one should be worrisome about. Unfortunately, filing has collapsed, listing has collapsed...nobody knows which matter will be listed. I was there on last Saturday, I had long interaction with some of the concerned judges and Registrar...it is the largest High Court".
Notably, prior to this as well, the Supreme Court, on occasions, conveyed concerns about Allahabad High Court, especially the high pendency of criminal appeals.
