The Supreme Court, today on November 10, dismissed a Public Interest Litigation seeking directions for making guidelines for "the protection of Hinduism in India."
The PIL was listed before Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul, Sudhanshu Dhulia and Ahsanuddin Amanullah. The petitioner Daudhraj Singh appeared in person.
Expressing surprise at the petition Justice Kaul said, "What is this petition? You say (in Hindi) “Direction to proper authorities of Government of India to make guidelines for the protection of Hinduism in India.”
“Somebody will say protect Islam in India? Somebody will say protect Christianity in India,” Justice Kaul added.
The judge also said that laying down the Curriculum is not the task of the Court.
Earlier, on February 27, the Court had dismissed the petition by observing :
"The petition is completely misconceived predicated on the general observations that the Hindu religion is in danger and seeks protection from the Court. The petitioner alleges to be a social activist. It would squarely fit into the peg of a publicity interest petition and is accordingly dismissed."
Today, the bench was considering an application filed by the petitioner to recall the earlier dismissal order. The bench today refused to recall the order and dismissed the petition as lacking merits.
