Supreme Court Dismisses Bail Plea Of Suspended Janta Dal (S) Leader Prajwal Revanna In Rape and Sexual Assault Case

The Supreme Court today (November 11) dismissed a petition filed by suspended Janta Dal (S) leader Prajwal Revanna seeking bail in the case over allegations of rape and sexual assault.
A bench of Justices Bela M. Trivedi and Satish Chandra Sharma heard the matter.
Senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi, appearing for Revanna, argued that the offence of Section 376 IPC(rape) was not mentioned in the complaint. He said: "The complaint does not talk about Section 376 issue."
Justice Trivedi then pointed out that there were several other complaints.
"Chargesheet is filed now...I was abroad. I came back and surrendered. Chargesheet is filed now. I was earlier MP. I contested for MP. I lost because of all this," Rohatgi submitted.
"Dismissed," Justice Trivedi said.
"May I apply after 6 months?," Rohatgi requested.
"We are not saying anything," Justice Trivedi said in response.
On October 21, the Karnataka High Court dismissed the regular bail and anticipatory pleas of Revanna.
A single judge Justice M Nagaprasanna had reserved the order in the bail pleas, after hearing the parties.
On September 19, had reserved its order on the bail application (first case) filed by suspended Janta Dal (S) leader Prajwal Revanna who has been arrested on the allegations of rape and sexual assault. On September 26, the court had reserved its order on the two anticipatory bail applications filed by Revanna.
Revanna is charged for various offences including IPC Sections 376(2)n (commits rape repeatedly on the same woman, 376(2)k (rape while being in a position of control or dominance over a woman), 506 (criminal intimidation), 354(a) (Sexual harassment), 354b (Assault or use of criminal force to woman with intent to disrobe), 354c (Voyeurism) and Section 66E (Punishment for violation of privacy) of Information Technology Act.
