The Supreme Court Collegium today passed a resolution recommending the name of the incumbent Chief Justice of Delhi High Court, Justice Manmohan for elevation to the Apex Court.
The Collegium headed by CJI Sanjiv Khanna noted that Justice Manmohan stands at Sl. No. 2 in the combined all-India seniority of High Court Judges and he is the senior-most Judge in the High Court of Delhi. While recommending his name, the Collegium considered the fact that, at present, the Bench of Supreme Court is represented by only one Judge from the High Court of Delhi.
Presently, the Supreme Court is working at the strength of 32 judges out of the total strength of 34 posts.
The High Court Chief Justice was born on December 17, 1962 and is the son of Jagmohan Malhotra, former governor of Jammu and Kashmir and former Lt Governor of Delhi as well.
Justice Manmohan was designated as a senior advocate by the Delhi High Court on January 18, 2003. He was appointed as Additional Judge of Delhi High Court on March 13, 2008. He was made a Permanent Judge on December 17, 2009.
Justice Manmohan was appointed as the Acting Chief Justice of Delhi High Court w.e.f. November 09, 2023. In September, he officially took Oath as the Chief Justice of the High Court.
