A day after writing to the Chief Justice of India NV Ramana expressing anguish at the non-consideration of several pending issues of the Bar, the Supreme Court Bar Association has resolved to hold a candle march at the Rajpath to raise the grievances of the Bar.
The Executive Committee, SCBA in its meeting held on 07.01.2022 has unanimously resolved to hold a candle march starting from the India Gate at a time and date to be decided by the President when large number of advocates can participate in accordance with the DDMA guidelines.
The candle march will be held to raise the following grievances:
1. The lawyers are being muted and un-muted by the Court staff and the same militates against the concept of open court hearing as mandated in Article 145 of the Constitution.
2. Matters not being listed on non-discriminatory basis i.e ., strictly as per the date of filing.
3. Delay in finalisation of seniority list for allotment of Chambers which has resulted in delay in allotment of chambers, inspite of the same being ready for last 3 years.
4. Non-consideration of SCBA members for elevation to various High Courts.
5. No steps taken for construction of new lawyers chamber on the land behind petrol pump near ITO.
6. Not giving Supreme Court lawyers access to the Auditorium and additional space in Supreme Court building when the Supreme Court lawyers are equal stakeholders in the institution and moreover the said space was made available to the Supreme Court at Appu ghar at the instance of SCBA.
The Supreme Court Bar Association had yesterday written to the Chief Justice of India NV Ramana expressing anguish at the non-consideration of several pending issues of the Bar.
Senior Advocate Vikas Singh, President of SCBA in his letter addressed to the CJI and the 5 Senior most Judges of the Supreme Court has requested that an urgent audience be granted to the Executive Committee of SCBA to discuss the issues and necessary action be taken at the earliest.
"We are now getting a feeling that the SCBA, since it has never resorted to strike in its history, is not being given its due importance." the letter had stated
