The Executive Committee of the Supreme Court Bar Association on Wednesday passed a resolution objecting to the 'unilateral' changes made to the emblem of the Supreme Court and the statute of lady justice without consulting the members of the Bar.
"We are equal stakeholders in the administration of justice but these changes when proposed, were never brought to our attention. We are totally clueless on the rationale behind these changes," the resolution read.
It was on September 1 that the new emblem and the flag of the Supreme Court were unveiled by the President of India to commemorate the 75th year of the Supreme Court.
Recently, it came into the public domain that the statue of lady justice which was placed inside the Judges' library had certain changes. Traditionally, the statue wore a blindfold - to signify that justice would be administered impartially without regard to the status of the person. The new statue of Lady Justice was not blindfolded and carried the book of the Constitution of India instead of a sword.
The Association has also objected to the proposal to build a museum in the erstwhile Judges' library. It had earlier demanded a library and a cafe-cum-lounge for the members of the bar at the erstwhile judges' library.
"We unanimously oppose the proposed museum in the High Security Zone and press our demand for a Library and a Cafe cum lounge for our members," said the resolution endorsed by all 21 members of the Executive Committee.
