In a recent development in the ongoing NEET-UG 2024 Results controversy, another petition has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking a complete re-evaluation of all OMR answer sheets, re-ranking of candidates and a court-monitored enquiry.
The writ petition under Article 32 was filed by eight candidates who appeared for the National Entrance-cum-Eligibility Test (NEET) examination on May 5. Over 24 lakhs students had prepared for and attempted the country-wide exam.
What Are These Alleged 'Arbitrary & Illegal' Irregularities By The NTA ?
The alleged multiple 'arbitrary and illegal actions and irregularities' on the part of the NTA are :
(1) Students received different marks on their scorecards compared to their OMR sheets. These discrepancies were not due to grace marks, as these students were not from the centres where grace marks were purportedly given;
(2) Unprecedented inflation of cut off and average marks resulted in an unprecedented 67 candidates achieving a perfect score of 720/720 and securing the top rank which is usually 3-4 student;
(3) Six of these toppers are from the same exam centre in Haryana;
(4) Students have scored 718 and 719 marks, which is statistically questionable.
(5) No disclosure of method/criteria adopted for grant of Compensatory Marks for loss of time.
(6)There has been no defined logic for the grace marks given to these students and no list has been shared as per given grace marks to students.
(7)The provision for the grace marks due to time wastage should have been disclosed in the information bulletin before the exam, the National Testing Agency came up with the new rule after the examination which creates doubt on the authenticity of result.
Additionally it is prayed that the press releases by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on June 4 (declaration of results) and June 6 (clarification on result queries) be declared as illegal and quashed.
The vacation bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta issued notice on the petition on June 14. Notice was also issued on a similar matter on Friday (June 14) which sought a CBI inquiry into the alleged instances of paper leak in the NEET UG Exam. All the petitions related to NEET-UG 2024 will be posted next on July 14.
On June 13, the NTA responded to another petition challenging the grant of grace marks to 1563 candidates. It submitted that the grace marks will be withdrawn and all those 1563 students will be asked to either accept their scores without the grace marks or appear for a re-test.
The petition was drawn by Advocates Tanvi Dubey and Arihant Jain and represented by Advocate Charu Mathur.
