NEET PG 2022 Postponement- Supreme Court Dismisses Plea- Live Updates

Order : While considering the rival submissions, it must be noted at the outset that the academic schedule has already been delayed by over 4 months.

Order : Ms Bhati has submitted that NMC was granted approval by this court for the time schedule and the NMC's circular did not extend the time for admission.

Order : The ASG further submitted that is is necessary to allow the schedule to be put back on track.

Order : as they are supposed to be three batches of PGS doctors available in hospitals but as opposed to this only two batches are available due to delay; 

Order : ..was a matter of serious deliberation in the Ministry and a decision was taken on May 10 against postponement for reasons bearing on public interest and medical education. Any delay would infract upon patient care, since this will lead to fewer number of resident doctors

Order : and will also give more time for students to prepare. Mr Wilson also relied on circular issued by NMC that last date for filling information for colleges was extended to May 9.

Ms Aiswharya Bhati, ASG, urged that the issue as to whether a postponement should be effected

Order : Since that process is going to end on May 12, it is submitted that an extension of two months be granted for conducting exams for ensuing academic year. It is submitted representations have been submitted and if extension is given, no prejudice is caused to Union

Order : The new date for NEET PG 2022 has been fixed as May 21, 2022, with results expected on 20 June, 2022. Senior counsel for petitioners urged that in this backdrop, the petitioners who are doctors and rendered covid duties for past 2 years, were following counselling process

Order : States are holding the counselling till May 12. As for NEET PG 2022, the exam was originally scheduled on March 12 but was postponed due to clash of dates as noticed by this court..

Order : The above chart indicates the actual course of events which transpired with respect to NEET PG 2021 exam. First round of counselling took place 12- 14 Jan 2022. Second round 15 Jan - 12 Feb and extended up to 18 Feb. Thereafter mop up/stray rounds taken place upto May 7
