Chief of Justice of India Dr DY Chandrachud in a recent address cleared the air regarding a doctored video of the live proceedings in the electoral bonds case.
The CJI said that the video was doctored to 'troll' & 'viciously abuse' him on social media space while the reality was far from the reels.
" 4-5 days ago, when I was hearing a case, I had a little pain in the back so all that I did was, I placed my elbows on the armchair in the Court and I just shifted my chair. That video was doctored so as to delete that part that followed thereafter. The big amount of social media comments that the CJI is so arrogant, that he got up in the midst of an argument and he walked out of the Court. What they didn't tell you was that all that he did was shift his position in the chair. 24 years of judging can be strenuous. I did not leave the court, I shifted my position in the chair."
Stressing the intentions with which such a doctored video was made, the CJI further underscored that the true test for any judge in the public eye, lies in the nature of his work and the faith of the common litigant seeking Justice in him.
"I was subject to vicious abuse, trolling...knives were out. But I do believe that our shoulders (Judges) are broad enough and the ultimate confidence which we have is of the common citizens, in the work which we do"
The CJI's clarification came during his speech at the 21st Biennial State Level Conference Of Judicial Officers in Banglore.
