Topic: Contract Act- The Legal Implications of Agreements in Restraint of Trade

Agreements in restraint of trade are generally void and unenforceable in India because they violate a person's constitutional rights:

• Section 27 of the Indian Contract Act, 1872
  States that any agreement that restricts someone from practicing a lawful profession, trade, or business is void.
• Constitutional rights
  The right to practice any profession or carry on any occupation, trade, or business is a fundamental right under Article 19(1)(g) of the Constitution of India.

The lecture will be delievered By Faculty and Mentor: Akansha Singh

Ms. Singh holds a B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) from Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University and a Master of Laws in Business Law from the National Law School of India University, Bengaluru. Additionally, she has qualified the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by the University Grants Commission (UGC).

Driven by her passion for academia, she has served as an Assistant Professor of Law and has more than 4 years of teaching experience. Ms. Singh has also contributed to the academic growth of numerous LLM students by guiding their dissertation research.

She has published book chapters, articles and participated in conferences and FDPs relating to her area of interest. Very recently, Ms. Singh worked as a research fellow with the Ministry of Law and Justice wherein she worked on certain crucial areas of law making.
