[LIVE-UPDATES] SC Hearing In Plea Against Sudarshan TV's "UPSC Jihad ' Show

The Court will consider the issue again on Thursday, September 17.

We order and direct, pending further orders of the court, Sudarshan News TV is restrained from telecasting the show in continuation of the shows already telecasted either under the same or a different caption : SC

There are factually incorrect statements made in the program regarding the upper age and number of attempts for Muslims in UPSC exams : SC states in the order.

At this stage, prima facie, it appears to the court that the object, intent and purpose of the program is to vilify the Muslim community with an insidious attempt to portray them as part of a conspiracy to infiltrate the civil services : SC states in the order.

Mr Syam Divan submitted that there is no change in the position from Aug 28 when the Court declined pre-broadcast order, and that the show was an investigative journalistic piece raising issues concerning national security : SC notes in the order.

Solicitor General submitted that the wider issues of the case have to be addressed from the perspective of not just electronic media but also other media from which objectionable content can be shared : SC notes in the order.

The petitioners submit that the broadcast falls in the realm of hatespeech : the bench notes in the order.

J Chandrachud notes in the order that the petitioners submitted that the show had factually incorrect statements such as Muslims had different upper age limit and more attempts for UPSC exam.
