    With a vision to empower people by creating avenues for expanding their legal knowledge, the founders of LiveLaw, India's leading Legal News Portal, started LiveLaw Academy in 2021. The aim of LiveLaw Academy is to foster learning in both the core and niche areas of law. To make legal education accessible, we design specialised courses suitable for law students, lawyers and non-lawyers, which are taught by former Judges, Senior Advocates, subject experts and academicians.     About Judicial Service Examinations Preparation Course [JSEP]

    After successfully conducting various specialised courses, we felt there is a need to design comprehensive courses for preparation of competitive examinations. We, therefore, bring to you, the new initiative of LiveLaw Academy, 'The Judicial Service Examinations Preparation Course'. JSEP aims to equip students with an in-depth understanding of the legal subjects, language, General Knowledge. It will be taught by experienced faculties which includes former High Court Judges.

    Patron and Chief Mentor

    Justice V. Ramkumar

    (Former Judge, High Court of Kerala)

    Justice Ramkumar did his LL.B from Government Law College, Mumbai. He enrolled as an Advocate in the High Court of Kerala on 13-01-1979 and was directly recruited as a “District and Sessions Judge” in the year 1987. He also served as the “Law Secretary” to the Government of Kerala. He was appointed as a “Permanent Judge” in the High Court of Kerala in 2004, a position he held till his retirement in 2012. After retirement, he served as the Chairman of the “Advisory Board” under the Kerala Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act, 2007, from 2013 to 2016. From 09-10-2017 to 05-12-2019 he was the “Ombudsman” for the Kerala Cricket Association.

    Justice Ramkumar has been frequently invited by the Kerala Judicial Academy, Kerala Bar Council and Law Universities for sharing the wealth of his knowledge and experience with the Judicial Officers, Police Officers, Advocates, Public Prosecutors and law students. Justice Ramkumar has authored many books including “Law of Prevention of Corruption", 'Tendering Pardon to an Accomplice"and “Magisterial Trials-Law And Procedure”. He also authored many articles on important legal concepts in Question & Answer format for LiveLaw.

    Justice Ramkumar has graciously agreed to teach some of the core areas of criminal law to our judicial services aspirants.

    Faculty cum Mentors:

    Justice. K. Abraham Mathew

    (Former Judge, High Court of Kerala)

    Justice Mathew obtained his Law degree from Law College, Thane (University of Bombay). He joined the Judicial service in 1988 and served as the Munsiff-Magistrate. He was promoted as Sub Judge in 1992 and promoted as District Judge in 2001. He served as the Director, Kerala Judicial Academy, from 2010 to 2012. He was served as the Registrar (Vigilance), High Court of Kerala in 2012 and served as the District & Sessions Judge, from March, 2013 till December, 2013. He was sworn-in as the Additional Judge of High Court of Kerala on 01-01-2014 and appointed as a Permanent Judge of the High Court of Kerala with effect from 10-03-2016. He retired on 18-01-2019.

    He is an Honorary Professor, at Live Law Academy. He has very kindly consented to teach Code of Criminal Procedure /Bhartiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita and Law of Evidence/ Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam.

    Vishalakshi Sathianathan

     Ms. Sathianathan has completed her five-year law course from ILS Law College, Pune in 2013 followed by an LLM in Criminal Law and Administration with distinction from Central India College, Nagpur University in 2015. She has over nine years of teaching experience and qualified UGC NET. She has been a visiting faculty at Central India College, Nagpur and TMC Law College, Thane. Preceding her position at LiveLaw, she was the Head of Department (Law) at KES Shri. Jayantilal H. Patel Law College, Mumbai from 2022 onwards and has been an Assistant Professor at the same organization since 2018. She has been called upon to chair sessions and as a panelist by various institutions on topics ranging from gender inclusivity to police science. Her area of research centers around the status of mentally ill in the criminal justice system and she is pursuing a Ph.D. on this subject.

    Akansha Singh

     Ms. Singh holds a B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) from Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University and a Master of Laws in Business Law from the National Law School of India University, Bengaluru. Additionally, she has qualified the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by the University Grants Commission (UGC).

    Driven by her passion for academia, she has served as an Assistant Professor of Law and has more than 4 years of teaching experience. Ms. Singh has also contributed to the academic growth of numerous LLM students by guiding their dissertation research.

    She has published book chapters, articles and participated in conferences and FDPs relating to her area of interest. Very recently, Ms. Singh worked as a research fellow with the Ministry of Law and Justice wherein she worked on certain crucial areas of law making.

    Her vision at Livelaw Judicial Academy is to help her students cultivate a deep understanding of law. She strongly advocates for diligence and discipline.

    Haresh Singhal

     Mr. Singhal has 13 years of experience in teaching Hindi language for Judicial Services and other competitive exams. He holds a B.A. from Kota University and a B.Ed. from Sri Satya Sai University of Technology & Medical Sciences . Additionally, he earned two M.A. degrees— one from Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) and another from Bundelkhand University. Currently, he is pursuing a Ph.D. in Hindi language. Mr. Singhal has also appeared twice in the Civil Services Examination (CSE) Mains, conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), in Hindi medium.

    Sneha Arora

     Ms. Arora has pursued LL.B. from Campus Law Centre, Delhi University after completing her graduation in B.Sc. Electronics Science, also from the Delhi University. She has pursued her LL.M. in Criminal Law specialisation from NALSAR University of Law and has qualified the UGC NET in December 2023. She finds her interest in Public Law and has been invested in research and teaching. She is also working as a guest Lecturer in the Hamdard Institute of Legal Studies and Research, Jamia Hamdard University where she has been teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate Law students.
