    A Full Bench of the Karnataka High Court will hear petitions filed by Muslim students challenging Hijab Ban in colleges at 2.30 PM today.

    A single bench had referred the petitions to larger bench yesterday observing that "questions of seminal importance" are involved.

    The single bench also said that the question of interim relief will be considered by the larger bench.

    The matter is before a bench comprising Chief Justice Ritu Raj Awasthi, Justice Krishna S Dixit and Justice JM Khazi will hear the petitions today at 2.30 PM.

      Hegde : Uniforms are school phenomenon, for students to be identified if they got lost or ran away from school. When students went to college they stepped out of uniform and uniform in Colleges came much later.

      Hegde continues the arguments: In the 1983 act there is no provisions for uniform. I was in Karnataka in PU College from 1982 and we did not have any uniform.

      Hegde : In the Karnataka Education Act, there is no provision for Uniform.

      Chief Justice : Do you mean to say that there is no provision for Uniform?

      Hegde : After this meeting, the petitioners were not allowed to attend classes and made to sit outside. Seeing no hope petitioners decided to do a protest.

      Chief Justice : We have understood the problem.

      Hegde: On Dec 30, students approached the District Education Officer, with representation. On Jan 1, 2022, Principal Called a meeting of CDC and the Chairman of the CDC declared that petitioner should not wear headscarf.

      Hegde: Since December 2021 the petitioners have faced discrimination in their classes and they were made to stand out of the class and it continues. The petitioners said head scarf is part of their religious and cultural practice.

      Hegde : Petitioners are students of Govt PU college and are wearing their regular head scarf over their uniform. Respondents teachers principal insisted that they remove their heads scarf.
