As the pandemic rages in Delhi, a Supreme Court of India administration branch member passed away on Saturday due to the novel coronavirus, confirming the first COVID-19 death among the country's top court staffers.
50 year old Rajendra Rawat was working at the Supreme Court's administration department and had tested positive for COVID-19 five days back. Rawat is survived by his spouse and three children. Rawat had contracted the virus 5 days ago.
The Supreme Court has been functioning on Video Conferencing since March 23.
The apex court registry has been functioning with a reduced number of staff due to various reasons including the lack of adequate public transport facilities.
Though the top court has been taking precautions and sanitisation measures as preventive steps towards effectuating it's Covid19 protocols, several members of the Registry staff and their family members had got infected with the virus.
