Corporate Matters Alone Can't Get Priority Listing; We Have To Give Priority To Weaker Sections Also : CJI Ramana

The Chief Justice of India NV Ramana said on Monday that the mentioning system was being streamlined to ensure that corporate matters alone do not priority listing.

"We are streamlining the (mentioning) system....All these corporate people start coming and mentioning their matters, and other matters will go to the backstage. There are pending criminal appeals and other cases too. We have to give priority to other people, weaker sections also", the CJI said on Monday, while the lawyers were making oral mentioning for urgent listing of their cases.

On an earlier occasion, the CJI had said that the system of mentioning before the Mentioning Registrar was introduced to bring parity between senior and junior lawyers.

"We don't want to give any special priority to seniors, and deprive juniors of their opportunities. So this system was made, where all can make the mention before the mentioning registrar", CJI Ramana had said.

The CJI had said then that the lawyers may mention before the bench if the matters do not get listed even after the mentioning made before the Mentioning Registrar.
