The Chief Justice of India NV Ramana on Wednesday hinted that physical hearings in the Supreme Court might resume soon.
"We may hear physically after one week or 10 days", CJI Ramana told Senior Adv Mukul Rohatgi during a hearing.
The Chief Justice of India made these remarks while hearing a case related to TRAI Tariff order. When the matter was taken, the CJI made statements regarding certain problems faced during virtual hearing.
"Before hearing, I have to say a few things. We have noticed counsels simultaneously arguing in different courts. Please focus in one court. Also, please use a quality WiFi and device. You are appearing before the first court, and you are making important arguments. And sometimes we are not able to see or hear you. We might miss your arguments. I'm sorry to say. Anyway way, wait. We may hear physically after one week or 10 days", the CJI said.
The Supreme Court had been functioning in virtual mode since March 2020 with the onset of COVID-19 pandemic. Though the Court switched to hybrid functioning(with options of virtual and physical hearings) during March this year, it soon reverted to complete virtual hearing after the advent of second wave of the COVID pandemic.
The Supreme Court Bar Association had been demanding the resumption of physical hearing for long.
