In a generous gesture, Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and other Supreme Court Judges today (March 13) felicitated Pragya, the daughter of a cook in the Supreme Court, for scoring a scholarship. Pragya has recently received a scholarship to study for a masters in law at two different universities in the US.
In a 40-second video released by the Press Trust of India, the CJI and all the other judges of the Supreme Court were seen congratulating her. CJI also honored Pragya's mother and her father, Ajay Kumar Samal, who has been working as a cook in the Court. While doing so, the CJI congratulated him and said, “It is a matter of pride for all of us.”
Following this, the CJI handed Pragya a book signed by all the Supreme Court judges. It's a privilege and an honor, Pragya replied.
"I feel that if you work hard and want to move forward, then you will find resources. It shouldn't happen in a country that a student who is hardworking doesn't get resources. This is our responsibility. It is not just the responsibility of the government but also the citizens to ensure that every child, who wants to do higher studies or excel in sports, can achieve their dreams," CJI told the PTI.
