    The Central Government on Thursday (31st December) notified the appointment of Justice Rajesh Bindal, presently the Judge of the Common High Court for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and Union Territory of Ladakh, as the Judge of the Calcutta High Court.     The Central Government on Thursday (31st December) notified the appointment of Justice Rajesh Bindal, presently the Judge of the Common High Court for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and Union Territory of Ladakh, as the Judge of the Calcutta High Court.

    The Centre has also notified the appointment of Justice Sanjay Yadav, presently a Judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court, as a Judge of the Allahabad High Court.

    Also, Centre has also notified the appointment of Justice Vineet Kothari, presently a Judge of the Madras High Court, as a Judge of the Gujarat High Court.

    [NOTE: In exercise of the power conferred by Article 223 of the Constitution of India, the President has appointed Justice Vineet Kothari, senior-most Judge of the Madras High Court, to perform the duties of the office of Chief Justice of that High Court with effect from 01st January, 2021 consequent upon the retirement of Shri Justice Amreshwar Pratap Sahi, Chief Justice, Madras High Court till Shri Justice Sanjib Banerjee, Judge, Calcutta High Court assumes the charge of his office as the Chief Justice of the Madras High Court.]

    The Central Government has also notified the appointment of Justice RS Chauhan, presently the Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court, as the new Chief Justice of the Uttarakhand.

    The Centre also notified the appointment of Justice Mohammad Rafiq, presently the Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court, as the new Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court.

    The Central Government has also notified the appointment of Justice Pankaj Mithal, as the Chief Justice of the Jammu & Kashmir High Court and the appointment of Justice Ravi R. Malimath, as the Judge of Himachal Pradesh High Court.

    It may be noted that Justice Dr. S. Muralidhar, presently a judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court has been appointed the Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court. Also, Justice Hima Kohli, judge of Delhi High Court has been appointed as the Chief Justice of Telangana High Court.

    Earlier in the day, the Centre notified the transfer of Chief Justice J K Maheshwari of Andhra Pradesh High Court as the Chief Justice of Sikkim High Court and Chief Justice AK Goswami of Sikkim High Court as the CJ of AP High Court.

    About Justice Rajesh Bindal

    Justice Bindal obtained his degree in law from the Kurukshetra University in 1985 and joined the profession in the Punjab & Haryana High Court. He represented the Chandigarh Administration before Central Administrative Tribunal for more than a decade till 2004.

    Justice Bindal was elevated as a Judge of the Punjab & Haryana High Court on March 22, 2006. He remained Chairman of the Committee constituted pursuant to Resolution No. 7 adopted in the Chief Justices' Conference, 2016 for framing Draft Rules for Electronic Evidence and submitted his report to the Supreme Court in November 2018.

    During his tenure in Punjab and Haryana High Court, Justice Bindal disposed of around 80,000 cases. Before his transfer to the Jammu & Kashmir High Court, he was heading various Committees including Computer Committee, Arrears Committee.

    On transfer to Jammu & Kashmir High Court, he took oath of office on 19th November 2018.

    The Central Government had, in December 2020, appointed Justice Rajesh Bindal, senior-most Judge of the Jammu & Kashmir High Court as an Acting Chief Justice of the High Court.

    About Justice Sanjay Yadav

    Justice Sanjay Yadav was born on June 26, 1959. He Enrolled as an advocate on August 25,1986. He practised on Civil, Revenue and Constitutional sides in the High Court of Madhya Pradesh at Jabalpur. He has also served the position of Deputy Advocate General of Madhya Pradesh.

    He was appointed as a Judge of the High Court of Madhya Pradesh on March 2, 2007 and Permanent Judge on January 15, 2010.

    In September, 2020 the Centre notified the appointment of Justice Sanjay Yadav as the Acting Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court (as per Article 223 of the Constitution of India) with effect from September 30.

    About Justice Vineet Kothari

    As a Lawyer, Justice Vineet Kothari practiced in Tax & other Commercial and Constitutional Laws, Arbitration & Company Law for 20 years in Rajasthan High Court & Supreme Court of India. 11 years as Judge in Rajasthan High Court since 13-06-2005.

    He was transferred to Karnataka High Court on 18-04-2016 and he assumed office as the Senior Judge of Madras High Court on 23-11-2018.

    He was appointed as Acting Chief Justice of the Madras High Court with effect from 21-09-2019 to 10-11-2019.

    The Centre has also notified the transfer of following High Court Judges

    Justice Satish Chandra Sharma of Madhya Pradesh High Court to Karnataka High Court.

    Justice Joymalya Bagchi of Calcutta High Court to Andhra Pradesh High Court;

    The Supreme Court Collegium in its meeting held on 14th December,2020 recommended transfer of nine Judges/ Chief Justices to various High Courts.

    It has recommended to transfer:

    Chief Justice of Telangana High Court, Justice RS Chauhan to Uttarakhand High Court;

    Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh High Court, Justice JK Maheshwari to Sikkim High Court;

    Chief Justice of Orissa High Court, Justice Mohammad Rafiq to Madhya Pradesh High Court;

    Chief Justice of Sikkim High Court, Justice AK Goswami to Andhra Pradesh High Court;

    Justice Sanjay Yadav of Madhya Pradesh High Court to Allahabad High Court;

    Justice Rajesh Bindal of Jammu & Kashmir High Court to Calcutta High Court;

    Justice Vineet Kothari of Madras High Court to Gujarat High Court;

    Justice Joymalya Bagchi of Calcutta High Court to Andhra Pradesh High Court;

    Justice Satish Chandra Sharma of Madhya Pradesh High Court to Karnataka High Court.
