The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has told the Calcutta High Court that it has received sanction from the West Bengal government to probe the financial irregularities case against the former principal of RG Kar College and Hospital Sandip Ghosh.
These submissions were made before a bench of Justice Tirthankar Ghosh.
Notably, Ghosh had been granted bail in the larger conspiracy around the rape and murder case in which Sanjoy Roy was sentenced to life imprisonment after the CBI had failed to file its chargesheet within the stipulated time.
Earlier, the High Court had transferred the probe into the financial irregularities at RG Kar Hospital to the CBI from the SIT. This verdict was upheld by the Supreme Court and Ghosh had been remanded in CBI custody.
Accordingly, Justice Ghosh directed the jurisdictional trial court in Sealdah to begin hearing the case and to frame charges within the stipulated time.
