      Ramachandran: I'm not saying that...take for example transgender persons, there is a broad societal sympathy because they play a social role in our society. But this is an unpopular minority.

      CJI DY Chandrachud: That's not something which the court can presume. We can't declare on how we assume the parliament would react.

      Ramachandran: Triple talaq was something which shocked the conscience of people across communities. Therefore, when the court passed a declaration penalising it, it was a matter of fairly easy consensus.

      Singhvi: My last point- I may be perhaps guilty of slight exaggeration but I think it's an appropriate analogy. The segregation doctrine of separate by equal is what I've said here.
