  • Digital Defender Network [Register by September 15, 2022]

The idea behind DDN is to establish a network of lawyers from across the country to defend the digital rights and freedoms of Indian citizens. We aim to set up local points of contact throughout India to lead legal redressal before the courts/authorities on disputes about digital rights issues and problems.

Today, data and information technology are the cornerstones of information exchange between people. Possessing requisite knowledge in such domains is necessary to inculcate a sense of ownership of one's data. Training in cyber law and information technology is essential to bridge the gap between the citizens and the justice system. As technology continues to play an evolving role in the administration of justice, both the Bar and the Bench need to change perspectives on it and learn to adapt.

    What is Digital Defenders Network?

DDN is a pro-bono, nationwide network of lawyers committed to defending digital freedoms online. With the first cohort of 25 lawyers from across the country, DDN shall be a wholly virtual network to overcome geographical limitations.

Our goal is to provide timely and effective legal redressal to people facing violations of their freedom online, through lawyers located in different parts of the country.

The Lawyers or 'Digital Defenders' will have access to -

    • Support from other lawyers within the network
    • Resources available with SFLC.in
    • Assistance in filing cases/complaints
    • Dedicated online grievance redressal form
    • Opportunities to collaborate with pre-eminent lawyers, academicians, and policy experts in software, technology, data protection, and management.

    What is the training like?

We plan on providing technical and legal training sessions to the 25 selected 'Digital Defenders' over 5 weeks, scheduled on the weekends. The syllabus deals with pertinent aspects of cyber law, including digital security training, search and seizures, intermediary liabilities, electronic evidence, cyber crimes, etc. Certificates will be provided to the 25 lawyers at the successful conclusion. Membership to the Network shall be for 1 year. There is no fee for membership to the DDN.

    How can you help?
