Professor (Dr.) Yogesh K Tyagi has been appointed as Vice- Chancellor of Delhi University

Professor Yogesh K Tyagi, former Dean of the Law Faculty at South Asian University (SAU), has been appointed as the new Vice Chancellor of Delhi University (DU) by the President of India on 15^th February, 2016.

This is indeed a great news particularly for legal academician in country. The appointment of law professors to such offices in traditional universities like Delhi University is a rare sight. This is only the second time that a professor from legal profession has occupied this designation after Prof. Upendra baxi.

Prof. Tyagi did his Ph.D. from Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi which had the legendary Professors. Prof. Tyagi Completed his LLM Legal Studies from Columbia University.

On his appointment, Prof. R. Venkat Rao, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of National Law School of India University, Bangalore congratulated by saying that: “A moment of immense pride and great satisfaction to all of us. Delhi University is in safe hands. Dr. Yogesh Tyagi, a scholar of international repute, is known for his impeccable integrity. I wish Prof. Tyagi a very successful tenure.”

Also, Prof. Dr. Faizan Mustafa, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad also congratulated him and quoted “Prof Tyagi is an eminent scholar. After Prof Baxi we have got another law professor as DU Vice chancellor. I am sure he would take DU to the zenith of excellence”

The legal fraternity hopes that law professor's appointment might bring some good time for otherwise grossly neglected Faculty of Law, Delhi University in midst of other excellent institution of Delhi University.
