Prof. Dr. V Balakista Reddy appointed as Registrar of NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad

Prof. Dr. V Balakista Reddy has been appointed as the next Registrar of NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad. Prof. Dr. Reddy is the successor of Prof. Dr. Vijender Kumar, who has recently been appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of NLUJAA. Prof. Dr. Reddy took charge and assumed his duties as Registrar on October 18^th, 2014.

An internationally recognized expert in Air and Space Law, International Law, SAARC Law and also pioneer of International Trade and Business law Prof. (Dr.) V. Balakista Reddy obtained his Masters in Law (LL.M) in International Law from Osmania University, Hyderabad, M. Phil. and Ph.D. in International Air and Space Law from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi. Having more than 14 years of Teaching and Research experience his contribution to the International legal regime is unmatchable.

He is a prolific and eminent writer and authored and edited many books in the sphere of aviation and space laws. His books like, “Air Law and Policy in India” (1994)“Recent Trends in International Space Law and Policy” (1997) “Emerging Trends in Air and Space Law”, (2007)“Global Perspectives in Consumer Law” (2011), “Space law and Contemporary Issues: Perspectives on Asia-Pacific Region” (2012)and “Air Law and Policy” (2013) are international renowned and acclaimed books. These books are the leading references in respective subject areas and have also attracted national and international scholars, researchers, professors of both developing as well as developed countries.

He is a visiting faculty to various universities in India and abroad, including Mississippi University, USA, Leiden University, The Netherlands etc. He is also an active member of many national and international institutions like International Institute of Space Law (IISL), Paris, The Indian Society of International Law (ISIL) and The Aeronautical Society of India (AeSI), New Delhi. He holds many projects and assignments of national interests such as WTO and India: Issues and Challenges, Drafting of Model Space Legislation for India, Sensitization Programme on WTO/GATS and its impact on Indian Legal Profession. Further he is also the chief editor of SAARC Law Review and Indian Journal for Air and Space Law (IJASL) and he has extensively contributed in various national and international journals on different facets of International law.

NALSAR University of Law took a big leap under the able guidance of Prof. Dr. Reddy by introducing the most sought after International Business Law Courses in India such as International Trade and Business Laws and Investment and Infrastructural Laws, for the first time, for LL.M students so as to meet the future needs of the budding International Business and Trade Professionals. Besides, supervising M. Phil and Ph.D. students, Dr. Reddy also teaches LL.B. and LL.M. Courses. Dr. Reddy has left his footprints globally by participating and presenting papers at numerous international conferences.

The NALSAR University of Law has also established an advanced Centre for Air and Space Law (CASL) in 2005 under the headship of Prof Reddy. The Centre has taken the lead in organizing conferences in collaboration with the International Astronautical Federation (IAF) and International Institute of Space Law (IISL), Paris. He has also been instrumental in bringing the finale of Manfred Laches Moot Court competition to NALSAR campus where three sitting International Court of Justice judges (Their Excellencies Abdul G. Koroma, Peter Tomka and Hisashi Owada) judged the final round of the competition.

As a Coordinator of M. K. Nambyar SAARCLAW Center, he has organized various national and international conferences, workshops and published newsletters, books and articles in SAARCLAW Field.

Apart from his immense contribution and experience the legal academic arena, Prof. Dr. Reddy has also held various administrative positions at NALSAR, for instance the Proctor, PG Convenor, Moot Court Converser, Academic Adviser, member in NALSAR Academic Council, Executive Council and General Council. With such a diverse nature of academic and administrative experience, his recent elevation to the prestigious position of Registrar of NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad, is expected to bring more laurels to the University.
