Around 200 students of the National University of Study and Research in Law (NUSRL), Ranchi, locked down the university gate and sat on dharna on Wednesday demanding administrative overhaul and better infrastructure in the institution.
Faculty members could not enter the university premises due to the protest and had to sit outside the main gate. Students also sought support of the teachers for their demand.
In a press release stuck at the university’s gate, the students claimed that they have been forced to sit on an indefinite protest due to administrative apathy. They said a four-day protest was held in April on the demands after which the authorities had assured changes in the institution within three months. The state of affairs in the institution was such that students had no option but to protest again, they said.
The students said going by the past experience, they would not interact with any other authority, expect the chancellor along with the chief minister or their nominee on the issues.
A student, on condition of anonymity, said even though NUSRL Ranchi is one of the costliest institutions of its kind in country, there was only an administrative block, mess and hostels for the students. There is need to build roads inside the campus.
The faculty members sitting outside the main gate were not ready to talk to media on the issue. However, one of them said it was unfortunate that students had to stage two protests in a span of few months.
