Adani Vizhinjam Port: Kerala HC Orders Removal Of Tent At Protest Site

The Kerala High Court on Friday directed that the tent erected by protestors on the road leading to under-construction Vizhinjam Port be immediately removed.

"The respondents shall take appropriate steps to see that the 'panthal' obstructing the road to the project site is immediately removed," said the court.

Justice Anu Sivaraman passed the order on a submission made by the counsels representing Adani Vizhinjam Port Limited that the "obstruction" has not been removed even after previous orders from the court.

The submission was made during hearing of a contempt petition filed by M/S Adani Vizhinjam Port Pvt Ltd, alleging wilful disobedience of Court's order dated September 1, whereby it had granted police protection to company's employees and workmen and had ordered free ingress and egress to the construction site.

The Court had earlier exhorted the State to take steps to ensure unhindered access to under-construction Vizhinjam Port site. 

The Case has now posted the matter for hearing on October 12

The contempt petition had been filed through Advocates Roshen D. Alexander, Tina Alex Thomas, Harimohan M., Roshen & Roshen Advocates.

State Attorney and Government Pleader N. Manoj Kumar; Senior Advocate V.J. Mathew, and Advocates Vipin P. Varghese, Adarsh Mathew, Kevin Mathew George, Meera Elsa George, and Merlin Mathew appeared on behalf of the various respondents.
