The new state government in Maharashtra led by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has retained Senior Advocate Ashutosh Arvind Kumbhakoni as Advocate General of Maharashtra.
The said notification dated December 7, 2019 signed by Chief Secretary Ajoy Mehta states that Kumbhakoni is being retained in continuation of the earlier notification for his appointment as Advocate General dated June 7, 2017.
AA Kumbhakoni was first appointed as Advocate General of Maharashtra by the Devendra Fadnavis government after then AG Rohit Deo was elevated to the bench. Born on July 12, 1959 in a family of lawyers, Kumbhakoni was also the First Associate Advocate General of Maharashtra for more than three years from April 1, 2005.
He was elevated to the bench in 2008 but resigned in six months over issues related to his seniority. In 2014, Kumbhakoni was designated as a senior counsel.
