The Tripura High Court last night gave its nod for the proposed Trinamool Congress proposed 31st October rally to be led by the party's national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee today, after the local police canceled its earlier permission and asked the party to change the venue of its proposed rally.

The bench of Justice Subhashish Talapatra was hearing an urgent plea filed by All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) and others challenging the order issued by the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (Sadar) asking for a change of venue of the proposed meeting/rally.

Earlier, permission was granted to hold the rally in front of Rabindra Satabarashiki Bhaban, Agartala, however, yesterday (October 30), the venue was asked to be changed to Vivekananda Maidan, Agartala, therefore, challenging the same, TMC had moved the High Court.

The petitioners undertook before the court that the assembly will not be formed of more than 500 people and leaders of TMC shall aid the police in order to ensure that not more than 500 people enter the venue, i.e. on the road in front of the Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan, Agartala.

The Court directed the petitioners to strictly abide by this undertaking and gave the liberty to the police to put Nakas at the appropriate places to regulate the inflow of the supporters of the TMC for ensuring that the assembly is restricted to 500 people.

Apart from this, the Court also asked TMC to mandatorily file an undertaking before the West Agartala P.S. that there shall be no gathering at all in the proposed places. Subject to these directions, TMC was permitted to hold their public meeting in the venue, i.e. on the road in front of Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan, Agartala.
