    With an intention of setting up community mediation centres in Hyderabad district, the Telangana State Legal Services Authority under the aegis of NALSA, conducted a 3-day mediation training program between February 9-11.

    The program was inaugurated by Telangana High Court's Acting Chief Justice Sujoy Paul on February 9 in Secunderabad, Hyderabad. The Acting Chief gave the example of the Community Mediation Centres at Indore which were running successfully and where more than 5000 matrimonial disputes were settled, amongst others. He said that the Community Mediation Centres are being used as libraries and also a meeting place for the youth to assemble and exchange information about the Drug menace.

    The program was conducted to introduce and educate voluntary mediators and to conduct mediation at community level. The training program concluded on February 11 wherein a valedictory ceremony was held in the presence of Acting Chief Justice and Justice K Lakshman.

    The Telangana Community Mediation Program had been established under the guidance and suggestions of the then Chief Justice Alok Aradhe last year. Initially the program was launched in the Kamareddy and Nizamabad district. In a short period of time the districts were able to dispose of a combined 81 complaints.
