The Telangana High Court on Tuesday came down heavily on the Central Government for its laid-back attitude in the distribution of Amphotericin B medicine, crucial for treatment of Black Fungus infection.
"Not a single vial of the allocated injection has been received by the State of Telangana from May 26 onwards," Chief Justice Hima Kohli noted.
The remarks were made in perusal of the data furnished by the Director of Public Health and Family Welfare, Government of Telangana, regarding allocation of Amphotericin B by the Centre.
The Bench also comprising of Justice B. Vijaysen Reddy ordered the Additional Solicitor General to explain reasons therefor and ensure that allocated vials of the captioned injections are received by the State at the earliest.
"Even the allocated vials are not received. Why are these injections not available? Why have you defaulted? It is imperative for treating patients suffering from Mucormycosis," the Bench told the ASG.
It also heard the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA), body responsible for fixing the ceiling prices of non-scheduled drugs.
The authority informed the Court that the prices of Covid-related drugs including the medicines required for treatment of black fungus infection have been capped.
Inter alia, the Court has sought response from the State Government on the strategy for "Walk in vaccination".
"The Centre has issued notifications permitting Walk in vaccination. Then why have you not permitted it?" Justice Kohli asked the Advocate General.
The matter will be taken up at the end of the board today.
