The Kerala High Court on Tuesday directed that all efforts shall be taken in an expeditious manner to ensure that the child is provided with a seat in the government school after her mother alleged that she was being denied admission.
Justice Raja Vijayaraghava was adjudicating upon a plea filed by the mother of a 17-year-old girl who had fallen prey to sexual abuse. In her plea, she had alleged that a government school was denying admission to her daughter.
It was vital for her to shift to the said school since the school in which the child was previously pursuing her studies was located near the accused's residence. It is also contended that the child was still being taunted by certain individuals.
In order to pursue her studies, she applied for transfer admission to the Government Vocational Higher Secondary School.
Advocate R. Gopan appearing for the petitioner had asserted that though there were enough vacancies in the said School, for one reason or the other, admission is refused. Several representations were filed before the respondents and the same is pending.
However, today when the matter was taken up, the Senior Government Pleader submitted that the respondents were taking all earnest efforts to accommodate the child in the said school but since there were no vacant seats in the school, steps were being taken to ensure that a seat is provided.
This submission was recorded by the Court and a direction was issued to take immediate measures to get the girl admitted to the school. The matter will be taken up again on 10th December.
