Supreme Court Collegium Recommends Appointment Of Three Lawyers, One Judicial Officer As Judges Of Uttarakhand High Court

The SC Collegium’s statement notes that on 07 September 2022, the Chief Justice of the High Court of Uttarakhand made the above recommendation in consultation with his two senior-most colleagues.

The Chief Minister and the Governor of the State of Uttarakhand also concurred with the recommendation and the file was received in the Supreme Court from the Department of Justice on 01 April 2023.

For the purpose of assessing the merit and suitability of the above-named candidates for elevation to the High Court, the SC Collegiums scrutinized and evaluated the material placed on record including certain complaints.

Importantly, in its statement, the Collegium took note of the fact that it is difficult to identify other suitable names from the Bar.

The Supreme Court Collegium consulted with the judges of the Supreme Court conversant with the affairs of the Uttarakhand High Court, following which, the Collegium recommended the above names for appointment as Uttarakhand HC Judges.
