Supreme Court Collegium Proposes Transfer Of Allahabad High Court Judge Justice Shamim Ahmed To Madras HC

The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended that Justice Shamim Ahmed be transferred from the Allahabad High Court to the Madras High Court.

The Collegium comprising the Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud, along with Justice Sanjiv Khanna, Justice BR Gavai, Justice Surya Kant and Justice Hrishikesh Roy, proposed Justice Ahmed's transfer to Madras HC after rejecting his request for a reconsideration of the proposal.

"We have considered the request made by Mr Justice Shamim Ahmed in his representation. The Collegium does not find any merit in the request made by him. The Collegium, therefore, resolves to reiterate its recommendation dated 21 August 2024 to transfer Mr Justice Shamim Ahmed to the Madras High Court," the collegium's statement reads.

As per the statement of the SC Collegium, his transfer was proposed on 21 August 2024 while holding consultations with one of the Supreme Court judges conversant with the affairs of the Allahabad HC, the Chief Justice of the Allahabad HC, and the Acting Chief Justice of the Madras HC.

Justice Ahmed graduated in Law from Allahabad University and enrolled as an advocate on April 17, 1993, with the Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh. He practised Civil, Constitutional, Service, Labour, Company Law, and Criminal law at Allahabad High Court and worked as central government counsel in the High Court from August 4, 2004, until his elevation.

He was elevated as an Additional Judge of the Allahabad HC on December 12, 2019, and took oath as Permanent Judge on March 26, 2021.
