Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) Elections 2020-21 To Be Conducted On 27th February 2021

The Election Committee vide its meeting dated 27.01.2021 has announced the schedule for conducting the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) Elections for 2020-21.

According to the Election Committee, a meeting was held with the Health Advisory Committee on 27th January 2021 wherein the Health Advisory Committee had assured of an "expeditious consideration" for conducting partial physical voting in the proposed hybrid manner.

However, the conduct of physical voting is subject to "the advice of Health Advisory Committee constituted by the Chief Justice of India and final permission."

According to the resolution of the Election Committee, the new draft voters list for SCBA elections shall be published immediately on the notice boards and SCBA website for inviting objections and inclusion or exclusion of the names in the voters list.

The members are also required to furnish or update their email the ids and phone numbers by 7th February 2021 failure of which the option for voting online could not be further exercised by the members. Subsequently, a final voter list will be published on 8th February 2021.

"From the final list, the members who opt for physical voting shall submit in writing up to 22.02.2021 that they shall vote physically whereupon option to vote online shall not be available to such members. This option may be exercised carefully as no change shall be allowed once this option for physical voting is communicated." The resolution says.

However, the Committee clarifies that the members who do not exercise the option to vote physically will automatically be deemed to have opted for online voting.

According to the Schedule announced by the Committee, the following are the important dates:

1. 09.02.2021 to 12.02.2021: Nominations fr various posts may be filed in physical mode by members whose names appear in Final Voters List.

2. 13.02.2021: Draft List of candidates shall be displayed on the notice boards and website of SCBA.

3. 15.02.2021 and 16.02.2021: Objections/ withdrawals to nominations may be submitted in the office of SCBA.

4. 17.02.2021: Election Committee will rule upon objections to the nominations where after the final list of contesting candidates shall be displayed on notice board and website.

5. 22.02.2021: Last date for exercising option to vote physically, subject to permission.

6. 25.02.2021: Debate of candidates for post of President and Hony. Secretary shall be held in virtual mode.

7. 27.02.2021: The polling date for both online voting and if permitted, physical voting.
