While dealing with a plea challenging the Delhi Government's decision to open malls and markets but not weekly markets, the Delhi High Court on Monday remarked that it is expected that the street vendors are expected to take Pro active steps in getting vaccinated in order to avoid a third covid wave.
A single judge bench comprising of Justice Rekha Palli issued notice on a plea filed by Saptahik Patri Bazar Association and sought response of the Delhi Government.
The Court also said that it is expected from the Delhi Disaster Management Authority that it will consider the aforesaid issue in the right perspective.
"It is also expected that street vendors will also take pro-active steps to get vaccinated so that we can avoid the third wave." The Court said.
However, the Court also made it clear that it was not asking the Government to allow all weekly markets to operate and that the concerned authorities may consider the issue and then take a decision. It also said that the Delhi Government may put conditions to avoid crowding in the market.
During the course of hearing, Advocate Rajat Wadhwa appearing on behalf of the petitioner association highlighted the concern of poor vendors who are suffering due to the said action.
He also submitted that there will be more crowd if only one weekly market is allowed to open in a municipal zone as it would lead to more crowd.
On the other hand, Advocate Satyakam appearing for the Delhi Government assured the Court that the authorities will consider the issue and inform the Court about the same.
