The Patna High Court has asked the Bihar Government to specify details regarding its preparedness to deal with the third wave of COVID and also to furnish details of the health infrastructure, currently in place in the state to deal with the Pandemic.

The Bench of Chief Justice Sanjay Karol and Justice Sanjeev Prakash Sharma sought the abovementioned details as it listed a batch of pleas filed in connection with the handling of the COVID situation in the state for Monday, after taking cognizance of certain news reports, indicating the onset of the third wave of the Pandemic Covid-19 in Bihar.

The Cout has requested the Advocate General to ascertain the information from the appropriate authorities and posted the matter for further hearing on 5th of January, 2022.

It may be noted that the Patna High Court on Sunday decided to function exclusively through the virtual mode after certain judges and staff members tested positive for COVID-19.

"...in view of the recent surge in the COVID cases wherein a large number of court staff/officers of the Registry and some of the Hon'ble Judges of this court have been tested covid positive, the competent authority has been pleased to decide that the functioning of the Court shall be conducted 'exclusively through virtual mode' with effect from 04.01.2022 till further orders," the notice issued by the Registrar General of the High Court reads.

Last month, the Patna High Court had asked the Chief Medical Officers presently posted in all the 38 districts of Bihar to furnish details regarding health infrastructure in the state.

The bench of Chief Justice Sanjay Karol and Justice S. Kumar had also directed the Additional Chief Secretary, Department of Health, Government of Bihar, and all the Civil Surgeons-cum-Chief Medical Officers shall remain present through virtual mode today.

However, the very next day, the State Government had informed the Court that it had constituted a team for ascertaining the information with regard to health infrastructure at all levels within the State of Bihar.
