A Special Court on Tuesday rejected CBI's plea to stall a documentary series titled the “Buried Truth – The Indrani Mukerjea Story” featuring Indrani Mukerjea, accused of murdering her daughter Sheena Bora.

The series featuring several persons closely connected to the case will premier on streaming platform 'Netflix,' on February 23, 2024.

On Tuesday, Special CBI Judge S P Naik-Nimbalkar opined that the CBI failed to cite legal provisions under which the court could direct the OTT platform not to air the series.

No “inherent powers” to stop the broadcast, the judge said and granted CBI liberty to approach an “appropriate” forum.

According to IMDB, the docuseries investigates the disappearance of 25-year-old Sheena Bora and reveals the shocking aftermath.

In its application CBI sought to “issue directions to [the] accused and other concerned for staying/stopping the featuring of the accused persons and the persons connected with the case in the documentary...by Netflix and its broadcasting on any Platform till the conclusion of the ongoing trial.”

According to the CBI chargesheet, Sheena (24) was strangulated to death by her mother Indrani Mukerjea, her then driver Shyamvar Rai and ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna on April 24, 20212. Her then husband, Peter Mukerjea is also an accused in the case.

The agency alleged that Sheena's body was disposed of at Pen forest in Raigad district. The murder was discovered in 2015 following the driver's arrest in another case.

All accused in the case are out on bail.
