A Mumbai Court on Tuesday remanded Hindi film actor Rhea Chakraborty to 14-day judicial custody, allowing the application filed by Narcotics Control Bureau in the case registered under NDPS Act alleging that she used to procure drugs for Sushant Singh Rajput.
The Court also rejected the bail application moved on her behalf.
She was arrested by the NCB in Mumbai on Tuesday afternoon, after two days of questioning.
In the remand application filed before the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate at Esplanade, Greater Mumbai, the NCB alleged that Rhea used to procure drugs for actor Sushant Singh Rajput, who was found dead in his residence in Mumbai on June 14.
The NCB stated that Rhea's brother, Showik Chakraborty - who is under custody - disclosed that he used to facilitate the delivery of drugs, which were received by the aids of Sushant Singh Rajput, with the conscious knowledge of Rhea Chakraborty. Further, the NCB stated that Rajput's house manager Samuel Miranda and domestic help Dipesh Sawant disclosed that they used to receive drugs on the instructions of Sushant Singh Rajput and on several occasions, Rhea Chakraborty also instructed them.
The application further stated :
"During statement present respondent Rhea Chakraborty revealed about her involvement in the procurement of drug and financial transaction and also her Instructions to Samuel Miranda, Dipesh Sawant and Showik Chakraborty in this regard."
"It is also clear from the statement that the present respondent used to procure drugs for Sushant Singh Rajput for consumption purpose. The present respondent used to manage finance for drug procurement along with Sushant Singh Rajput."
Terming Rhea to be "an active member of drug syndicate connected with drug supplies", the NCB sought her remand to judicial custody for investigation of offences under offences under Section 8(c), 20(b)(ii), 22, 27 A, 28, 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
It stated that the investigation was at a preliminary stage and that Rhea's statements needed to be verified and that her unknown associates have to be traced.
Rhea is accused of abetting the suicide of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, which happened on June 14. The Central Bureau of Investigation is investigating that case on orders of the Supreme Court.
Earlier today, the Mumbai police had registered an FIR against the sisters of Sushant Singh Rajput and a Delhi-based doctor on Rhea's complaint that they hatched a conspiracy to serve banned drugs to Rajput on a false prescription which could lead to chronic anxiety attack resulting in the commission of suicide.
