The Allahabad High Court last week disposed of a plea filed by shopkeepers seeking rehabilitation/accommodation and compensation for loss of their shops/business due to the proposed Ram Janmabhoomi Road Widening project, by granting them the liberty to approach District Magistrate, Ayodhya with their grievance.

It was contended in the plea filed by the shopkeepers that the proposed construction of a new road from the main road to Sri Ram Janma Bhoomi via Shringar Hat Hanuman Gadhi would cause them commercial hardship.

The Bench of Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Justice Abdul Moin ordered thus:

"Considering the submissions made by the learned counsel for the parties and going through the record, we feel it appropriate to dispose of the writ petition with the liberty to the petitioners to approach the District Magistrate, Ayodhya/opposite party No.2. In case the petitioners prefer any representation to the opposite party No.2/District Magistrate, Ayodhya, he is expected to decide the same in accordance with law and after giving an opportunity of hearing to the petitioners, expeditiously.

With this, the writ petition was disposed of accordingly.

Another plea was disposed of in a similar fashion by the Court which had sought the following reliefs:-
    • Payment of compensation to the petitioners at the commercial circle rate in respect to their shops regarding the inclusion of shops in the extension/widening of City Ayodhya to nayaghat main road in the ends of justice.
    • Provide rehabilitation to the petitioners in view of Right to Fair Compensation & Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation & Resettlement Act, 2013.

The Bench of Justice Ritu Raj Awasthi and Justice Abdul Moin directed thus:

"Considering the submissions made by the learned counsel for the parties and going through the record, we feel it appropriate to dispose of the writ petition with the liberty to the petitioners to approach the District Magistrate, Ayodhya/opposite party No.2. In case the petitioners prefer any representation to the opposite party No.2/District Magistrate, Ayodhya, he is expected to decide the same in accordance with law and after giving an opportunity of hearing to the petitioners, expeditiously."

The writ petition was disposed of accordingly
