Police Assault On Etah Advocate: Allahabad High Court Bar Association Writes To Chief Justice To Take Suo Moto Cognizance Of The Incident

Taking a serious note of the recent incident which took place at Etah, Uttar Pradesh, the High Court Bar Association, Allahabad has issued a Letter requesting the Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court to take "suo motu cognizance of the said incident and pass appropriate orders to maintain the law and order situation of the state."
It maybe be noted that the Police broke open the door of a house, and had dragged & pulled an Etah Advocate (who was in Advocate's dress) and had assaulted him mercilessly. The video of this incident had got viral recently.
The letter has been addressed to Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court and has been issued by Mr. Prabha Shankar Mishra, General Secretary, High Court Bar Association, Allahabad, stating,
"The way the lawyer and his family members were brutally beaten up by the administration and the police, the advocate community is experiencing a sad feeling and it seems that the advocate community Is the most neglected community of all."
It is further stated in the letter that,
"The manner in which the constitutional decorum was vitiated, we are ashamed to call ourselves an advocate."
Further, stating that "the advocacy community is very angry about this incident and all eyes are on the High Court", the letter makes a humble request to the Chief Justice, Allahabad High Court demanding that "suo motu cognizance of the said incident be taken and appropriate orders are passed to maintain the law and order situation of the state."
It may be noted that on Saturday (26th December) the Bar Council Of India also issued a Press Release resolving to request Chief Justice of India & Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court to take "immediate steps to find out the guilty police personnel and issue a direction to Uttar Pradesh Government to immediately put them under suspension, transfer them and remove them from service."
Stating that "there is no limit to such atrocities of Uttar Pradesh Police and it has crossed all the limits", the Press Release adds that similar incidents have been witnessed in West Bengal, Bihar and almost all state and that "such actions of the police is rather worse than the crime committed by any hardened criminal/s."
