Letter By Judicial Officers Flagging 'Miscreants' Loitering Around Residence: District Judge Forwards Complaint To Calcutta High Court

The District Judge of South 24 Parganas, West Bengal, on Monday, wrote to the Calcutta High Court Registrar (Inspection) flagging a letter received from senior judges of the Diamond Harbour Sub-divisional court mentioning issues involving miscreants allegedly loitering outside the judge's residential quarters late at night, with 'ulterior motives' such as disconnecting electricity, causing trouble etc.

The letter by the district judge highlights that the judicial officers had expressed their apprehension over the involvement of police authorities in these occurrences, but had taken up the matter with the local police.

“Such incident surely puts the safety and security of the Judicial Officers at stake and may be a ploy to infuse fear amongst judicial fraternity of the Sub-Divisional Court," the letter states.

Three senior judges of Diamond Harbour sub-divisional court had written to the district judge stating that miscreants, allegedly aided by a certain police officer had been loitering around the judge's residential complex late at night, and that initial calls for help to the nearest police department were also not immediately aided.

The judicial officers alleged that this incident had occurred due to certain orders passed by them in certain POCSO matters, and to extort favourable orders by intimidating the judges.
