The Oudh Bar Association (Bar Association for High Court's Lucknow bench) has decided to abstain from judicial work on Tuesday to protest against the alleged assault and inhuman behaviour against some lawyers by UP Police officials in a Police Station in Lucknow.
In a resolution passed on Monday, the Association condemned the alleged inhumane behaviour of the cops and demanded from the administration that the police personnel involved in this incident from the police stations of Vibhutikhand, Gomtinagar, Lucknow be suspended and an impartial investigation into the incident be conducted and strict administrative action be taken against the guilty police officers.
The Association's executive committee has also demanded from the Uttar Pradesh government that the Advocate Protection Act be implemented immediately, stating that advocates are an integral part of the justice delivery system and that their safety is of the utmost importance.
“The executive committee and members of the Oudh Bar Association are deeply enraged by the above-mentioned act. All senior and junior lawyers have suggested abstaining from judicial work to register their protest. Therefore, the executive committee, keeping in mind the suggestions of the lawyers, unanimously decides that on 18.03.2025, all members will abstain from work and peacefully protest.”
Similar resolutions have been passed by the District Court's Central Bar Association (CBA), and the Collectorate's Lucknow Bar Association (LBA).
